a reload............................................................................................................................ ..i've been contacted lately by a couple of relatives of band members, which was an honour it itself...i got to see some rare band photos, that i will hopefully be able to upload here at some point, accompanied by the b-side of this their one single....................
from http://psychspaniolos.blogspot.com/2009/03/dark-horsemen-you-liedgirl-stand-b...

"The Dark Horsemen truly started in the garage, and the living room, D.W. Roof opened 'The Stable' south of L.C. where they played on weekends when they weren't on the road. When they were on the road 'The Allman Joys' and a few other bands from Fl. and Ga. would fill in. Dave continued with the band while attending F.S.U., I for one believe they may have influencent Jim Morrison, since he was also attending F.S.U during this period.
Sadly this was the only record for them. Mack Lane was killed in a tragic auto accident. Mack Bently died of hepititis from a blood tranfusion, Tom joined the Navy in 1968 during the Vietnam War, played some back up while living near Atlanta in the 70's and 80's, Dave played with The Jades, Seth, and Let's Honk. Dave Roof and Tom Roof now reside in Boiling Springs N.C.
Writen and sang by Mack Lane, Mack Bently (guitar), Tom Roof (keyboards), Dave Roof (drummer and founder) from their 1966 record, flipside 'Girl Stand by Me'; From Lake City, Florida"

  • This song is just awesome ...

Does anybody know if there are any 45's of this song available? I would like to play it in a 60's club here in SF.

  • it shows up on ebay a few times a year, last copy i seen went for around £100, maybe sundazed or someone will get round to a reissue if they are asked....the band would definately be up for it

  • hope this 'temporary' will last

  • yeah, probably, i noticed the quality of some of the older post starting to drop.

  • Wow!!! This is my Dad's band! My dad played the guitar. This was the "A" side of the 45 they cut, the B side is awesome too!

  • I think so, but then, I am very prejudiced! They were a very popular "garage" band, and traveled a circuit of Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina. If I remember correctly, this record was cut in 1966. Unfortunately, Mack Lane died in 1967, and my Dad Mack Bentley died in 1968. Otherwise, I think they would have made a career, as they were all EXTREMELY talented!
