Le lotus bleu est la suite directe des aventures du « Les cigares du Pharaon ». Tintin est en Inde et se repose quand l'énigme du poison qui rend fou le pousse à se rendre à Shanghai.
En plein conflit sino-japonais, Tintin tente de démêler les tenants et les aboutissants du trafic d'opium. La course-poursuite est relancée. Sur fond de trame historique, Hergé nous raconte sa rencontre avec le peintre sculpteur Tchang Tchong Jen qui deviendra son ami et qui lui révèlera la philosophie asiatique. De leur complicité, résulte un album à quatre mains où l'on découvre une chine croquée avec justesse et poésie.

'The Blue Lotus' is the sequel to 'Cigars of the Pharaoh'. While Tintin is in India taking a well-earned rest, he is drawn into a dangerous mystery revolving around a madness-inducing poison. The little reporter travels to the source of the poison, Shanghai. Against the backdrop of the Sino-Japanese conflict, Tintin sets to work unravelling a nefarious web of opium traffickers. A key relationship is forged as Hergé reflects his real-life meeting with the sculptor and artist Chang Chong-chen, who taught the author of Tintin about Eastern philosophy and would become a life-long friend. Hergé and Chang worked together on 'The Blue Lotus', a tale in which China is portrayed accurately and poetically.
