Prevent damage to your plumbing and waste due to excess pressure in you irrigation system by installing a water pressure regulator at the water meter.
Greg Chick, Ramona's Plumber, shows you how, step by step.

Water company street pressure is often much higher than the recommended 80 psi for landscape and household plumbing. This puts the pipes under higher stress than necessary and more likely to leak and break over time. Sprinkler systems with too high a pressure will mist excessively, often wasting 50% of the water applied.

This video shows a southern California water meter installation. Meter location and configuration will vary by region, as dictated by local codes and weather (in Northern climates the meters are often in the house where they cannot freeze); however, the principle remains the same: protect ALL the pipe that is on the homeowner side of the meter, not just what goes directly into the building.

  • What was the price of that regulator.

  • @drychalice Regulator prices start @ $100. double Union are more than single, with nuts is more than w/o, 3/4" less than 1", Ca. Approved more than non Ca approved. (lead free)

  • Very good! I see that the plumbers don't like this information getting around. My friend was charger $600.00 to do this by a pro plumber that thought he was a doctor!

  • @sailortaylor1 $600 could be a good price for a regulator installed. Size, location, access to it. Lots of things are possible. When I say I do it for $350, that is for a 3/4" or 1" double union hi capacity one installed at house or above grade in copper and no chipping out concrete to access, not digging up below grade, not having to use a locator to find it, not a larger Regulator such as 1 1/4 or more. Do you know if any of these common issues existed on your friends job?

  • and this guy calls himself a plumber... what a shame

  • I had a PRV installed at my apartment 4 plex & total cost was over 1000.00 Today I am installing one at my duplex ...i spent 100 on parts and I will let you know how it goes....Thanks soo much for the video!!

  • My water heater is leaking and my toliets run throughout the night. My plumber is coming tomorrow to install a new water heater and expansion tank. Because my house is old, it does not have a regulator on the inside. We have a septic tank, no sewer lines. Will installing a regulator prevent wear on my new water heater and stop the toilets from running at night? Also, what's the average cost for the part and installation?

  • @plumbworker professional, good demo!

  • @coohoolane Thank you so much, at this point we do this for thanks and good Karma, some day would you pay for such a video? if so how much, we are polling our worth?
