Quick test of Unity3D physics to control a car. Uses a custom tyre model. Really just to prove that not every car game done in Unity has to feel the same. The car is built in 3ds Max with full suspension setup, engine curves etc and via our custom exporter is a one click process to get into Unity and driving around. Can handle any number of wheels, driven or not. So to all those who think Unity is a pain to get a good car model working stick with it, it can do very nice vehical dynamics just need to do a little scripting.

  • This is the Pro version, right?!

  • @presbarkeep It was yes, version 2.6

  • nice, is it a pacejka based tyre model? Looks quite promising if it's sophisticated enough :)

  • @gtpdz Arr Pacejka, no it isn't, believe me Pacejka is not a good place to start for doing a proper tyre model, sure it does a nice job approximating the curve etc but it has serious issues. The tyre model has been used by an F1 team in their in house simulator so I think you can safely assume its 'sophisticated' enough :)

  • How did you get that camera? Can you send me a message with the script possibly?

  • @EMPrcRacing Camera is basically a lookat with some easing.

  • Awesome work, would love some help to create a custom wheel collider if you are willing ?

  • Very impressed with this, Keep up the great work and someday you will top the charts with codemasters

  • @jrmaty *do you have, not "so"!

  • I'm an environment artist and looking to put together a tech demo for a pitch to my seniors in the coming weeks and months. Is this tech up for discussion (i.e. any documentation, scripts available) - if not, if its all closed-source, so you have an license plans for the scripts? The project would require such physics, but all the programmers here are sat in deep crunch where I work!

    Awesome work nonetheless!

  • Nice work

  • @Gawaine1066 Hi Gawaine Im the author of UnityCar. In UnityCar im using Pacejka tire model. Can you tell me which are the issues with Pacejka tire model? And btw, can you tell us which tire model are you using? Brush model? Quasi-finite elements?

  • I'm curious, how did you make the car physics. Any tutorials?

  • How do you script for Mario Kart style-like objects? Because I've been scripting for it for days but I keep getting errors and they don't work please help. D:

  • and the ground shiny?

  • how do you make the sun reflections?
