Sumie is a Zen style brush and ink monochrome painting. It is simple yet profound.

Zen came to Japan in the 14th Century by way of Essai and Dogen who studied in China.

Bodhidarma Or Tao Mo in Chinese went to China from India and sat at the Shaolin temple for 7 years and this was the start of Chan of Zen in China.
