@liragon Natural selection isn't about stupid vs not stupid. Natural selection is about animals with better physical traits (Long beak vs Short beak) happening to survive because they were lucky enough to get that mutation and reproduce.

Somebody dying because they accidentally kill themselves isn't going to change anything. We won't evolve to be immune to accidentally killing ourselves.

@braunblender Well that would be irrelevant because if things are as you describe, then the threat of punishment would be a deterrent. Since it isn't a detterent, things aren't the way you describe.

It's very close to as easy, it's just as easy with pushing a pedal of a car down and running someone over, killing them.

@crazypants88 becasue drug trafficking dosnt involve a $2-300 to keep you going for the week like joe adv selling to his mates (who prob wouldn't kill if ppl fuck him over for $50). it involves 100's of millions and organised crime cindicates who do kill because the amount involved are staggering.

@braunblender It can be, it doesn't take much force to stab someone with a knife. The only thing I'd have to do to kill someone with a car is to press down on the gas pedal.

The point being if one wants to kill someone, a gun is by no means the only way to do it.

Well if what you say is true about punishment being deterrent, why does drug trafficking still exist in countries which punish it harshly. Why do people commit murders if they can get the death penalty for it?

if the penalty for carrying illegal weapon in public is a lot higher than the average petty crime, say 10 year min, then petty criminals prob wouldn't bother with them. im talking guns, knives and other offensive weapons in inappropriate areas.

@braunblender The same can be said of cars or kitchen knives. If I stab you in the neck, you're probably going to bleed out fairly quickly and with a car, that's many hundreds of kilograms moving at high speeds. The force of being hit with a car going moderate speeds can be deadly.

The problem with using laws to disctate criminal behavior is that criminal by definition don't follow the law, so any law made against them, will be subverted.

@crazypants88 in order to kill someone with a gun all you need to do is flip out for 1/2sec and move 1 finger and someone is fighting for there life or dead. to bludgeon someone to death takes a hell of a lot longer and at least gives the defender time to run. you'd need to be somewhat mentally deranged to continue the assault when the other person drops to the floor. . ive got no prob with ppl owning them but under v tight control (no full auto locked safe/vault) and shot in designated areas

i got mixed feeling when it come to gun control. . i dont think ppl should be allowed to carry guns as it makes killings far more regular, but in a country where there are 230 mil guns and so many ppl carry them i think they have a point (although NO guns would be better). the saying "guns dont kill ppl, ppl kill ppl" is true, but shooting is soo much easier than beating someone to death and requires far less rational thought. once that trigger is pulled you cant stop the bullet in flight
