Core = Punk. It has always been that way. It doesn't matter what MTV says. What can happen is some core bands having released albums more in common with metal than actuall core, like Napalm Death, but core alone is Punk and has nothing to do with Heavy Metal. Metalcore and Deathcore is Core + Emo + a small touch of Heavy Metal. Some of them have also some things more in common with metal than core, like Trivium's The Crusade.

@aerogun18 Just because a genre ends with core does not mean it's a genre of punk, it has punk in it, but usually very little in today's library.

Deathcore and metalcore are metal genres, they rarely ever have anything -core other than breakdowns.
