Our three-part Arctic Circle winter series from January of 2009 concludes with this evaluation of the effectiveness of Ultra High Performance All-Season tires -- during the height of the winter season -- in Northern Sweden.

These tires' three-season focus usually comes at some expense in the fourth season's wintertime traction levels. Our test revealed just how much, or little, snow traction is provided in these all-season designs by comparing the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, Continental ExtremeContact DWS, Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Yokohama Avid W4s.

  • I am waiting for my Continental DWS tires to arrive. I like there good snow ratings.

  • Dear Tire Rack, I am interested in purchasing Track and Competition DOT tires. I was wondering if I could get a review of some of the tires like the Pzero Corsa, the Hoosier A6, the BFGoodrich g-Force R1 and other tires! Thumbs up if you agree. Thanks!

  • I have driven the DWS on RWD, FWD and AWD vehicles in the snow and while yes, they are better than any other UHP-AS tire they are still not by any stretch a substitute for proper winter tires. Their strong showing probably has more to do with the generally appalling ability of UHP-AS tires in general than anything else. If TR had thrown Conti's own Ext. Winter Contact into this test I think the gap between it and the DWS would have been at least as large as the one between the DWS and Yokohama

  • just got the continental dws installed now, where is the snow

  • I got DWS's for my MKVI Golf TDI 6-Speed and can't wait to slap these on! Bundled them with 18 inch Sparco Pista wheels from Tire Rack DOT Com.

  • My bridgestones just came in today and now i feel like a dumbass, even though the snow is not tooooo bad where I live.

  • C'mon 85 dollars to ship tires 21 miles from Windsor, CT to Litchfield, CT? And taxes too?

  • One thumbs down?.....must have bought the Jokeahama Avid

  • Thank you for these videos 'Tire Rack'! This is WHY I order from your fine company.
