Tommey Reed and I have been talking about heating the incoming air to improve fuel efficiency for optimal performance to the temperature of the existing engine coolant temperature when fully warmed up 190°F
The intake air is superheated entering into the intake manifold as the fuel injector injects the fuel with superheated air allows for proper evaporation of the gasoline spray particles to vaporize more evenly for more efficient combustion. By the evaporation of the gasoline helps improve the combustion allowing for a cooler exhaust temperature preventing the fireball effect traveling down the exhaust system to reach the catalytic converter for re-combustion now is not necessary. If the gasoline is fully consumed inside the engine with out any excessive gasoline coming out of the exhaust system not consumed is proof of fuel efficiency in that point of view. Similar to the small engine demonstrations when the exhaust and muffler does not turn cherry red proves fuel efficiency has been achieved proving the fireball affect not leaving the exhaust has been achieved.
@Rone170 and reduced timing makes bad gasmilage

@901Jetta cold air intakes do work. for making more horsepower. more oxygen+ more fuel= more power. By heating the air you will be using less fuel and making less horsepower. Also by heating the air you increase your chances of pre-ignition and knock but most newer cars have knock sensors and when the ecu (cars computer) sinces knock it automaticly reduces timing aka knock.

@saturbo1107 but heating gas to those temperatures may cause pre-ignition but adding water and also heating it would reduce ignition temps. which would turn your fuel into a gas form allowing a better fuel atomization and increasing your mpgs.

good job! I did a Warm Air intake on 2001 civic and got 40mpg

Brilliant work Tommey. Very well done :) Thank you for showing us in detail- your Heat Exchanger. I really like that you have a background in Auto-Mechanics working for GM, This tells me you are highly qualified to experiment with gas saving technologies. I will be trying this modification as well. I'm also working on a system which will vaporize the gasoline and direct the vaporized gasoline into the existing fuel injectors as well- I'm looking forward to seeing your final vapor fuel system :)

34 US mpg is not good. My 1.6 Ford gives 53.3 UK mpg at 60mph.

31 mpg to 38 mpg nice job! can't wait to see the vapor fuel version.

Just heat the gas. Problem solve. Gasoline boil at 450. so everything from 160 and up will increse ur miles per gallon. Im heating my gas on my 4.6 rover... Still working on my HHO....

I hope this works because over here in the UK we're paying £1.34 per litre for petrol or £6.03 per imp gallon. Ouch!

The sensor on the air filter housing is the MAF or mass air flow sensor. Not sure if this unit has a combined air temperature sensor but I'm guessing the there is a seperate air temp device somewhere which could be hacked using variable resistor.
Did you carry out a control experiment on the standard car's fuel consumption before you made the modifications? If yes - what was the average miles per gallon?
