What you going to do. Un-invent nuclear technology. There is no turning back. We will either destroy ourselves, or progress to a type 1 civilization colonize other planets and survive. But either way, nuclear weapons are here to stay.

its worrying. THey wouldn't have these if they had no intention of using them. since when do governments have things they dont intend using them. They'll use them alright and kill everybody in the process. Even if they used these everybody on the planet would get sick. It's rumoured that nukes used on japan contaminated the entire planet and caused widespread ilness in many unresearched areas in unknown ways through lack of research.

Just because it was a US General it doesn't mean anything. Experts are wrong now and again. If you remember the Falklands War, the UK was in the process of mothballing the navel fleet as the threat was Russia and the Navy wasn't needed. It was then "oh shit! we need ships", so they had to take a few civilian ships. My point is you can't just borrow a warhead from a country, it is something you always must have. It is dangerous to cut parts of the defence that are currently not needed.
we have 4 trident submarines not 3

@jonocfc14 The fourth submarine is normally in refit and not armed.

Number in video is 48 missiles. 16 on each of 3 subs. Actual number deployed is probably slightly less.

"the Cold War lives on in the minds of those who cannot let go the fears, the beliefs, and the enmities born of the nuclear age. They cling to deterrence, clutch its tattered promise to their breast, shake it wistfully at bygone adversaries and balefully at new or imagined ones. They are gripped still by its awful willingness not simply to tempt the apocalypse but to prepare its way"
- General Lee Butler, former Commander USSTRATCOM (in charge of US nuclear forces 1991 - 1994)
