how many feet of runway to clear a 50 ft. obstacle, i'm guessing about 600.

Depending on the surface and temperature.. from a close cut grass field 70F calm winds it takes about 500' to clear a 50' obstacle.

Preceptor aircraft allows up to an 80 HP engine on this airplane. You would have to add weight to the tail to correct the change in CG due to the added weight of the larger engine.

Looks really nice. What engine do you have in it?
Does it have flaps?

The engine is a HAPI 1835 Model 60-2DM (dual ignition) rated at 60 hp continuous and 65hp for take off and climb. What looks like flaps on the photos on Barnstormers are bays that fold out of the way to allow the trailing edges to miss each other when the wings are folded. I am burning 3.5 GPH and cruising about 80 MPH.
