www.simonleachpottery.com Here we are throwing the lid and the spout. I think this kind of lid is basic to throw, but quite satisfactory from an aesthetic viewpoint. The spout, well a spout is a spout ! has some functional considerations, like it needs to pour, and look graceful. A teapot is a good exercise in assembling, "luting" , balance, gracefulness, .... what is a teapot to you ? KEEP PRACTICING ! ~ SL

  • Is that a bat on the top of your wheel head? If it is I was wondering what it was made out of. I just got a wheel and I was taught to throw on a metal wheel head, and my wheel has some kind of coating on it. My bat is plastic and I was wondering if it is different to throw on plastic rather than metal?

  • @xxxmorgyxxx Yes it is and it is plastic. I do not particulary like these rather thin & fiddly plastic bats. Prefer thicker ones of marine plywood. You can get other types ~ try your local pottery supplier or make your own ! SL

  • @N37BU6 Same here, I don't like actual doing pottery but I'd love to watch someone doing it. It's actually kind of interesting to watch.

  • Thanks, Simon.

A while ago I started using HPL bats ( High Pressure Laminate). A friend of mine, who's a carpenter, made them on my demand. They're 6 mm thick, very solid and couldn't care less about the wet conditions on the wheelhead! I'm extremely pleased with those bats.

    Grtz

  • great video! could you do a video on centering? i always feel like that is the hardest part and you do it so easily.
