Why Have New Zealand only won Rugbby World Cup once ?

ask yourself this: why are we wondering why nz has ONLY won 1 world cup? do we expect them to have won more? if your answer is yes then that says more about the rugby they play in the 204 weeks in between world cups. im man enough to admit it... they are by far the greatest rugby playing nation.. respect

its simple. NZ cannot play tournament style rugby. For the 4 years in between RWC the all blacks get a specific coaching staff that train them how to win Bledisloe / Tri-nations tournaments which only involves 2 other teams with an even playing field and similar styles which the AB's can master. Whereas in the RWC they are up against a range of different style teams most of which have nothing to lose.

@187prettyboy That helps but it isn't quite accurate because teams from say...Europe rarely play teams from say...South America. I wouldn't class England as the worlds current 7th best football team. i'd class them lower but there goes.

@TheARMAProductions But the ranking algorithm is designed with exactly that in mind. If you play and beat weak teams, you get lower boost, than if you beat stronger teams. So Uruguay beating Panama does not give them any more boost than England beating Italy. In fact, if Uruguay beats a minnow, their points pretty much stay the same. Also, on paper, none of the current England players would make the Brazilian C team.

@187prettyboy Pay no attention to the rankings anyway. Uruguay for example is currently ranked 4th but it's because they play in a part of the world where there's only one or two top class teams. England plays most of it's football against the likes of Spain, Germany, Itlay, Holland, France etc i.e. the best teams.

@187prettyboy England were ranked 4th in the world at football until very ecently where they are now 7th I believe. And? England are the worlds no.1 cricket team. Have had more champion boxers than NZ has had fighters, came 4th in the Bejing Olympics etc.

@TheARMAProductions The difference is, ABs have the best players in the world on paper. In football, England are not even considered a top 5 team. Not on rankings, and neither the team on paper

it's their attitude towards rugby and towards other teams that's cost them the world cup

@wf1477 Yeah NZ should of won it more than they have done mate. They are a bit like England in the Football. We have a good head to head record against other teams but we seem to underperform in the Tournaments. Allot comes down to pressure. This year is looking promising for you guys though. There doesn't yet seem to be a 'killer' team in this years WC so NZ should win it.
