Youll be glad to know the results are in for Rate the Dead Painter. In first place comes Valasquez, second is Vermeer and after a fall at the last hurdle its Raphael.

With the traditional Catalonian valediction of kiss your telephones we come to the end of part 5 and goodbye Salvador.

This is my favourite ever (in the history of ever!) arts documentary. Russell Harty visits Salvador Dali at his private museum and makes contact with the widescreen ego that is D-A-A-A-L-I-I-I-!

Sorry about the shadowing & fuzzy quality, I rescued this from a VHS recording made in the late 80s. This is generally what TV looked like pre-digital.

  • I was a film editor on the production team at Aquarius and remember this LWT project very well. What was the recorder you used to record this off-air? VHS did not appear until 1976. Was it a Philips N1500 VCR? They were launched in 1972 I remember.

  • @spurfilm It was repeated sometime in '88/'89, that's when I taped it. Never seen it repeated. Great work by the way.

  • hahaha at the beginning hilarious! scares the interviewer!

  • You can tell its the 1970s , Pink Floyd and some sort of Progrock version of the Planets Suite. Dali Bonkers .. No. Eccentric .. Yes.. I always wondered if he ever made mistakes in his art while painting . As he attacks the canvas with such violence.. Unlike da vinci.. Dali painted his ceiling solo. Interesting man and personally the equivalent living artist to person to Dali in my Opinion is H.R Giger.. Thanks for putting this up Ive always wanted to view it
