Hazel walked in her front door to find Joe casually leaning against the stairs talking to Aiden "Happy nineteenth birthday Butterfly!" Aiden raced over to Hazel and engulfed her into a bone crushing hug.
"Ribs breaking. Organs crushing." Hazel said between ghasps of air.
"Oh, sorry." Aiden said releasing his little sister and smoothing down his shirt.

Hazel looked behind Aiden to see Joe looking considerably uncomfortable. "Hazel." He nodded when he saw her looking at him.
"Joe. I-"
"you know what, I think I'll give you two a minute... Well, not here though, go up to your room. I'll tell mum that you went to the bathroom."
"Okay. Thanks." Hazel said, feigning confidence she grabbed Joes hand and ran them upstairs. On the exterior she was calm, cool, collected and oh so confident, but on the inside just touching Joe was making her heart pound, her head fuzzy and her vision blurred.

Slamming the door shut and locking it Hazel approached the bed. Joe took a seat by the window and looked out over the pool.
"I've missed you." He said.
"I know."
"I love you."
"I know."
"You love me."
"I like you."
"What is that? You Like me? What so now we'll go to the mall and act like bestest friends, or I know, let's go get facials, you know, a girls day at the spa... Ohh, we could gossip about some cute boy or whatever. I mean, that's what you do with the people you like right? You just hang out, expressing little emotion, acting like absoloute twittering fools?" Joe said angrily.
"Twittering fools?"
"Hazel." He said firmly.
"Don't take that stupid tone with me. You just assume that like just means like. What is it with you Joe? Are you really that oblivious? You've known me for thirteen years and you know NOTHING about me. Nothing about my life, about my friends, about my heart. You don't even care."
"Hazel. I told you I love you. I mean it."
"Yeah, but you can love someone without giving a damn." Hazel was fighting back tears, so much so that she was physically shaking.
"Hazel. I know that on Wednesdays you like to get a strawberry milkshake then go to the park and get some you time in. I know that every Saturday at 11.30 you call your grandmother to see how she's doing, even though she barely remembers who you are. I know that your best friend Xanthe means more to you than any other friend you've ever made after Nick, and I know that you hope to still be friends the day you die. I know that you would die for any one of your friends and that's not just words to you. I know that you're in love with Nick, and I kid myself that maybe you could love me too. I know when you were seven you used to have a major crush on Kevin, and I know that even though you tell yourself you hate your life, your heart is thinking otherwise."
To Hazel there was no point denying the facts. There was no point trying not to cry anymore. Turning away she let tears flow down her cheeks.
"You're crying."
"I think that's all I do these days Joseph. Cry."
Joe rushed over to Hazel and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Hazel."
"Joe, I know what you're going to say, but please. Don't."
"Hazel. You mean everything to me, but to you, Nick means everything. I just want to know, is there ever a chance of there being an us? I don't think I can leave this room until I know."
"Joe."
"No Hazel, I don't care. Either way I'm going to sleep easy tonight knowing whether there is or isn't. Hazel, please, it's just one less thing to doubt."
"Joe. Of course there is."
"Really?"
"Really. I just- not now okay?"
"I totally understand." Joe said fighting back a smile. "I love you." He kissed her cheek and left her room.
"Yeah." Hazel sighed to herself.

"Sweetie, c'mon. We have to go!" Tasha yelled up the stairs.
"Why did you have to pick possibly the most fancy-schmansy place around? I'm turning nineteen, not marrying a king."
Hazel sighed. She was wearing a pink strapless gown with an almost purple sash around the middle (in video). Joes jaw dropped, Mr. Simpson, as she had come to know him, Coughed, her mother and sisters gushed, her brothers all jumped at her with Jackets, Megan clapped, and Nick walked out of the kitchen, he dropped his bottle of water as he saw her making her way down the stairs.
"Woah." He said, Megan looked back at him, and he stood up a little straighter.

"You must be Hazel." Megan said as Hazel made her way straight to her.
"Yeah, I am. Megan right? Oh, I love your dress." (In video)
"Thanks. Nick picked it out."
"Well, he's always had impecable taste. Now, let's go before I hunt down a tub of icecream and two spoons."
"Two?"
"One for me, one for you." Hazel smiled and patted Megans shoulder.
Hazel decided that it was pointless hating Megan, and it was pointless to judge someone she'd never got to meet. Hazel was going to make this work out. She wanted to be friends with Megan. And Hazel, usually got her way.
