The fastest authentic first class century of all time was scored in 1982/83 and remains the record - 34 balls. No rubbish bowling to set up a declaration, this was chasing a target. David Hookes was angry about the delayed finish to the Victorian innings by his counterpart, Graham Yallop; he promoted himself to the top of the order and took out that anger on the bowling. The match finished as a draw, SA scoring 7/206 after just 24 overs, chasing 272. This was shown on the Tribute to Hookesy show in January 2004.
