Mario was great and as skilled a player as you will find. but no player in the history of the sport compares to Gretzky. All valid points made bout 66 in this piece, and are great stories, but this is Hockey, and until I find a player who dominated the sport like Greztky did for so many years, Nobody is on his level.

I keep seeing comments saying that Lemieux was better than Gretzky because he had a worse supporting cast. Lame reason. How about this one? Gretzky ppg 1.92 and Lemieux 1.88 ppg. Even though Gretzky's is better that's a miniscule difference. The reason Lemieux is greater lies in his ability to grind at 6'4 235. Gretzky has nothing on Lemieux as a forechecker or defensive forward. Combine that with Lemieux's incredible offensive production and Lemieux wins hands down

I agree Lemieux was the most offensively talented in the history of the game, with others like Gretzky and Orr a close 2nd. Even Gretzky and Orr have said in the past they couldn't touch Lemieux's raw talent. Early in his career he lacked a strong supporting cast like Gretzky. As an individual Mario dominated like no other and when he was on the ice there was always an anticipation something would happen.
