Powerful song from the 1950's ! Jesus is our Shelter and we must give Him praise and thank Him for being our refuge in times of trouble.Psalm 61:3"For thou has been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.'Psalm62:2'He only is my rock and my salvation,He is my defence,I shall not be greatly moved.'

  • I was just entering the world when this was being sung. I was born colour blind. But it was not until I was born the 2nd time that I truly became colour blind.

  • @10battalion10 Amen and praise the LORD !! We are one in Christ when we are born from above .I love this song and how they sing with a fervent heart .Real signing from the depths of their souls.

  • Thank you, Bro David! It's so true, that He is our shelter, even when we don't realize. I think about how true this song is for these men singing it, and how when he said "doors closed in my face." How different things were for black men back when he was singing this song. I'm sure he found shelter in Jesus spiritually AND literally. We have the God of creation loving us individually, what more do we need than that?

  • @iloveusomuchjesus Love your input , very encouraging ! Doors really did close in their faces because of the color of their skin and how sad it was that many back then and even now who confess Christ have racism in their hearts. The words are meaningful and as we read the Psalms we see those words Shelter,Refuge, Strong Tower,Buckler,Shield,Fortress ! Powerful description of who the LORD is to us !

  • These songs are classics! They don't make them now-a-days like they used to in them days! Thanks for sharing.

  • @Faithlikeachild777 You are so right.Love the lyrics of this song and love the fervent singing by the lead singer.

  • I pray this will lift up your spirit today ! Take into account that back then segregation was everywhere in the schools, busing, business, churches, restaurants .How tragic ! When they sang a song like this it had even a deeper meaning ! In Christ and in the power of the Cross destroys racism in a believers heart.I started my ministry in poor African American inner city churches when I was 19/20 years old.I was honored by this fellowship and we were colored blind. The blood of Jesus unites us !

  • Amen! The Lord has been a shelter for me too!!

Psalms 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

  • I enjoyed this song a great deal! wow! Great thanks so much and God Bless You. :)

THANKYOU so much for sharing with me!

  • good video. thanks. :) I got saved and started doing ministry in the inner cities in the late 1970s too. The light of Jesus Christ shines brightest in the darkest places leading people to the shelter that never lets you down.

  • A pleasure to listen to !
