"SONG TO THE SIREN" · on the floating shipless oceans · i did all my best to smile · 'til your singing eyes and fingers · drew me loving to your isle · and you sang, sail to me, sail to me, let me enfold you · here i am, here i am, waiting to hold you · did i dream you dreamed about me · were you hare when i was fox · now my foolish boat is leaning · broken lovelorn on your rocks · for you sing, touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow · oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow · oh i was puzzled as the newborn child · i was riddled at the tide · should i stand amid the breakers · or should i lie with death my bride · hear me sing, swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you · here i am, here i am, waiting to hold you
Sinéad O'Connor (vocals) · Moya Brennan (backing vocals) · John Reynolds (drums) · John McKenzie (bass) · Caroline Dale (strings) · Kevin Armstrong (guitar) · Justin Adams (guitar)
"Song To The Siren" from the album "Music Of Ireland: Welcome Home (Part One)" (March 2, 2010) · Composed by Tim Buckley and Larry Beckett

Love that you put the lyrics up! I love This Mortal Coil's version best of all and am old enough to remember when they first did the video for the song and it was played on MTV. Yes, MTV used to play nothing but music videos....those were good times! I have never heard anyone beat Liz Frazer's vocal for this song.

@ZZOSO1000
The Robert Plant version is more of a straight cover... a very good one. This sounds more like a cover of the 1983 This Mortal Coil re-imagination which is beautiful.

Robert Plant does the best version of this song EVER. Take a listen and respond.

@ZeitgeistAreWe Robert Plant tops everyones version hands down, This Mortal Coil is a very close second.

Pretty good. But you can't top Bryan Ferry's ultra-cool version on "Olympia".

Expected better but who can really top This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren "Cocteau Twins" - A. no one.

@hebeks thanks. If I hadn't been so lazy, I should have looked it up myself. Thanks for the explanation.

@didleybopp Why does it have to be absolute? Why does it have to be definitive and the words exact? Isn't it a mark of the utmost respect that more that 35 years after his death a myriad of artists are lining up to pay respect to Tim Buckley by performing this song?

This one's a bit overdone I think. But to each their own. I like Liz Fraser's the best

This Mortal Coils is by far the best version. I have to admit that I am surprised that Sinead's isn't. Her vocal talent in Foggy Dew would suggest otherwise..
