In other words, he plays like a Russian?

God I am happy to see that other people agree that Richter's is the most perfect and beautiful of all. For 30 years this has been my most treasured recording.

@gc65531941 I think it was Chopin who said of Franz Lizst, "I wish I could steal his way of playing my etudes!" :) And we can thank God that no pianist plays Ravel like HE did!. Compare the 2 clips of the Pavane on here (Richter's and Ravel's)

This is probably the best piano recording of the 20th Century.
The conductor is Stanisław Wisłocki. The orchestra is Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra. The date of the recording is 26-28/04/1959.

you put it, you listen to the agreement sublimely ask Richter, his accent so expressive, the works of Rachmaninov, so beautiful and you think of all those damn cochoneries of nuclear war, the misery in the world ... us for life and you start to cry.

@OctoberSabine I wish you in the future to be able to play what Richter played only with his left hand. Regarding to the right hand, just forgot about it! Richter was able to create the perfect crystal sound, like water drops and simultaneously to control completely the melody and his forceful emotions. I hope someday I could play like him. Arrogant guys like you should not just mention what they think they know!

With respect to all Richter lovers I know how highly estimated Richter is but I listened to this performance for several times and with every time I get more disturbed to a point that even the silence before the playing disturbed me knowing that the playing will shortly begin. The "effort" wanting to surpass Rachmaninoff is heard in the notes. Very high very slow very disturbing performance.

@OctoberSabine: It's an interesting concept, but could the interpreter ever surpass the composer?

Il pathos di Richter é insuperabile,da pelle d'oca (goose-flesh, for our English friends:....)
