Richard Ireland demonstrates his psychic abilities on the Steve Allen Show in 1969. During the show, Steve Allen, an ardent skeptic, even provides commentary to acknowledge the validity of Ireland's unusual capacity. Biographical information on Richard Ireland can be found in the newly released book, Soul Shift: Finding Where the Dead Go, written by his son Mark Ireland. Any person seeking to "debunk" this video faces a monumental task, because there are so many aspects to consider. In a typical demonstration, Ireland would provide highly specific messages—similar to those on this video—to approximately 50 people in an audience of 100, eliminating the theory of audience "plants." Also, on three separate occasions—during live demonstrations, a former employer sent him currency wrapped in aluminum foil, yet Ireland was still able to correctly state the serial number on each bill. In the 1980s, members of the Hawaiian Remote Viewers Guild tested Ireland by applying a flour paste over his face, yet he still demonstrated the same ability to see while blinded.

  • Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the book. And I'm sure you're right about my dad having success in any legitimate experiment with Randi, although I bet the rules may have changed along the way. There is a good article on Randi's prize on a blog called "The Daily Grail". If you Google it the article is called, "The Myth of the Million Dollar Challenge."

  • Mark: BTW, I read your book soulshift and liked it a lot.

  • Too bad that he isn't still alive. He could have taken James Randi's $1000000 prize.

  • This man/Psychic was a most remarkable person; Steve Allen was very brave to have Richard Ireland on the program considering how the subject is generally not accepted at that time. Very entertaining.

  • Wow....he was so amazing!!

  • That is so cool! You've got a fascinating neighbor. He mentioned on the Skeptico podcast he might be working on a biography about his dad- which I think will be very interesting if it comes to fruition. I'm interested to find out why he left the Spiritualist Church. Anyway, thanks for your response (and favoriting that Phil Seymour song- I love the power pop of that era).

  • Hello,

Thanks for your message. I think serial killer Psychics are a special breed, not all Psychics have the ability to specialize "or can deal" in the sick minds that dwell in those individuals. I have a special liking for Dr. Ireland as his son, the author of "Soul Shift" is my neighbor and close friend :-). Also, thanks for your comment about Phil Seymour - he's from my home town (Tulsa, OK). Too bad he left us too soon. Thanks again for your comments!

  • It is amazing and I have no doubt he had these abilities. But I wonder why he couldn't do things like tell the police the names of serial killers. Why do these abilities seem limited? Anyway, there's a great interview with his son on the Skeptico podcast. He's written a fascinating book. And one more thing- I mistakenly clicked on your name instead of reply and saw you had favorited the song "Precious to Me" by Phil Seymour. I had forgotten how much I love that song. :-)

  • Great work!!!!

  • This is incredible! Dr. Ireland was a true Psychic.
