A bumpy ride to the famous Hsoon-Oo Ponnya Shin pagoda near Mandalay, Myanmar, on Sagaing Hills dotted with Buddhist temples and monastic communities, not just to gain merit but also to enjoy the panoramic view over the Irrawaddy and the delicious flower salad fresh from the frangipani native to these hills.
Thanks for sharing. I like Saga & Kyaung sha salad thoat, but i don't know about na- nyunt baiu - what it is.? We ate dant da lun flowers salad as well.It is very healthy & very delicious. Oh. how I missed those delicious meals in Sagaing hills. Our ancestral monastery is in Sagaing hill & we used to go there most of the summer holidays & roamed around. Those were the happiest days with families & friends & my three brothers & cousins were ordained to priesthood there.

I don't think I've had dant dalun (drumsticks) flower salad, only young leaves in soup. Nayunt balu is green and slender rather like Hsooban which is slightly tougher.
Yes, if there's something I miss and impossible to come by in the West, is the immense variety of leafy salads and soups, also to dip raw or scalded in curried fish sauce.
I must correct that the saga or zagah here is actually not champac but frangipani. My apologies.
