Messing around with Keith Jarrett's song on a Sunday afternoon. I can never hope to play as well or as fast as him, but it's still fun to try.

To get started with this piece I used the transcription from the 1973 Bremen concert at

for a poor new french pianist...

    THX U SO MUCH....

  • I posted another video (a response to this one) which I hope will help. Good luck.

  • Well played and you've done me a big favour. Used to have this piece on old cassette but no idea what it was called or where it was from (played entire Koln LP but not on that! Can someone tell me exactly what its cold - the bass motif is wonderful!

  • I'm not sure what it's called, but Jarrett played it as an encore in Tokyo in 1987 and a similar improv in Bremen in 1973. Check out the video to which mine is a response.

  • This is the coda to Jarret's 1973 concert in Bremen. Jarrett plays a different version as the coda to his 1987 Tokyo concert. I've yet to seea good piano rendition of this.

  • well done. but please please tune that piano

  • truth in music digs this too!

  • the difference between You and Keith is the percentage of using the pentathonic scale in improvisation. very interesting video though

  • Okay, thanks piagnome going to check them out. I appreciate your playing and your response. Incidentally, on my infamous tape I had the album track 'Take A Pebble' by ELP within which Keith Emerson undertakes a similar bass motif driven exercise!

    Best regards, Neil
