The TopWater Owl

This Barred Owl attacks my Bass lure at a Missouri Lake and gets hooked by three sets of treble hooks. My crazy Son being the animal lover, risks getting mauled to save the Owl. The Owl sat on the back of the boat for 15 Minutes, and flew off, Hopefully having learned the difference between a fish and a Topwater Bass lure!! The MOST bizzare thing that has ever happened on a fishing trip.

I caught a great horned owl while dragging a Mann's Phat Rat across the pad's in the small pond up behind my house a few years back. He swooped down out of a tree directly behind me and grabbed it up. I let him take line until I was almost spooled out. He dropped it when I gave a tug. Never thought I'd see that again, but 2 casts later, he grabbed it up again. Boy, I wish I had gotten that on cam. Great post!

i cant believe the dad is such a wuss. He made the kid handle and save the "dangerous" owl ( I say dangerous as you can hear the dad talking about not touching the owl because of diseases. WOW. My boys would have laughed me out of the boat and bought me a dress if I would have acted like that guy. Not to knock your dad kid but Atleast theres a man in your house. He was dealing with the owl and the camera while some tool just sat back and was at a total loss and was apparently scared of nature

Hahaha - I also love your Dad ... so afraid that it was an attack owl. It actually could have attacked you, but that's the job of a parent, to keep you safe. Glad you didn't listen to him (this time). I also am curious ..... how di it end. Did it fly away, or did you take it to shore ?

I must commend you both for keeping your cool on a VERY unusual situation. You did everything right. Then leaving him be to rest and dry off. You have NO idea the damage that owl could have done to you if you hadn't done everything right, though they do seem to know when someone is trying to help them. As a lifetime fisherman and a wild bird rehabber...KUDOS TO YOU! Now you have one hellofa fish story to tell(and show!)

the repeat audio was kinda stupid. I am glad that they did the right thing and untangled the owl instead of just cutting the lure loose.
