from the album 'Rhythm Traveller',

*
"...Written by the samba boss Pingarilho,
'Samba De Rei' reflects his earlier work as one of
Rio's pioneers of the acoustic-jazz-samba sound...."
*
A tribute to the late
Dom Um Romao, percussionist.
*
"...A living legend, acclaimed as one of Brazil's greatest drummers ever, Dom Um Romao was born in Rio De Janeiro in 1925 and first became well-known through recording 'Mas Que Nada' with both Jorge Ben and the Sergio Mendes 66 group, which became the most famous Brasilian song of all time and was used in the 1998 World Cup 'Ronaldo commercials'....... Having received much acclaim for his work with Sergio Mendes, Dom moved to the US to record with Frank Sinatra ('Francis Albert Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim'), Cannonball Adderly ('Cannonball's Bossa Nova'), Herbie Mann ('Do The Bossa Nova Herbie Mann'), Airto Moreira and Flora Purim ('Seeds On The Ground', 'Flora E MPM...'), Astrud Gilberto ('Beach Samba', 'Look At The Rainbow', 'Windy'), and Antonio Carlos Jobim ('Wave')....... Dom was a founding member of rock super-group Weather Report, touring worldwide. After such achievements, Dom formed his own group. The albums 'Dom Um Romao' and 'Spirit Of The Times' were ground-breaking at the time and are now dancefloor staples on the world jazz dance scene....... Having seen much of his work become in demand again, Dom decided to take the music further and record another album with Mr Bongo. His first solo album for 30 years, 'Rhythm Traveller', is a journey through the rhythms of Brazil with the support of the cream of Rio's singers and musicians. 'Sinistro' and 'Jungle Carnival' are intended as a riposte to all those who have copied his 'batucada' sound and show the world the master is back..."
