Oct. 2006 Scotty Anderson Live at the Capital Theater in Macon, Ga.. None of these musicians had ever
met or played together before this except for Scotty and the rhythm player, Dwight May, until the
night before when they rehearsed for a couple of hours. There was no firm setlist to practice. Scotty
called the tunes on stage and the guys had to learn the songs as they went along.

  • I'm a professional musician, and I think he's probably the best guitar player I've ever heard in my life, BUT, to me, he over-plays a little too much, but even more importantly he rushes the tempo a bit and doesn't give the other players enough leads. Marc Trainor.

  • You are obviously a professional! Only a good player could detect that tempo faux pas.He may have the tendency to speed up a tad at times, but he has so much music in his heart that he can't get it out fast enough. As to giving time for leads, he had mercy on these great players as they had never played these tunes before. He is the most generous genius I've ever met. I wish you knew him.

  • I love Scotty's approach to the guitar, but I can't help thinking that if he played fewer notes, the notes he did play would be more memorable. Part of the problem is that the "jazz guitar" tone tends to be all attack, and little sustain.

  • You may be right. You could also say the same thing about Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie

  • I was replying to what "Gattonmaster" about Tommy Emmanuel being "good". Apparently he hasn't sat down with Tommy 1 on 1 & and watched what that guy can do. Gattonmaster aka mastercollector is always causing trouble trying to tell people Danny Gatton is the greatest thing that ever walked the Earth. So I'll get back to what we all should be saying, "Awesome video! Scotty is amazing!"

  • You obviously haven't heard Tommy Emmanuel. That Aussie will run with the best of 'em.

  • @DelSpaarky I think they said that about mozart...too many notes...

  • I love this song and especially the way Scotty Anderson plays it! Why can't I find this on CD????

  • Absoutely stunning!

  • @cprattguitar In 16 years I have heard 151 different audio cd/cassette, and have seen 90 dvd/video of Gatton. Only one other guy can say that. With your address I can send you a photo and some material that will prove my point. I have been complimented from guitar fans all over the world. In 41-42 years I can say the most impressive for me are Danny Gatton, Lenny Breau, Scotty Anderson, and Wes Montgomery. I go on youtube to share knowledge and experience of great guitar players not to argu

  • @gattonmaster That's a very mature response I play and know of a lot of "unknown" players they are all awesome. Its better to enjoy the music and encourage players to listen to stuff well done youtube has a lot of "IP toughguys" that are rude well done m8 !

  • Scotty A. is utterly amazing . Lots of names being thrown around but one you missed was the late , great Joe Pass . His phrasing was just WOW !

  • Scotty will be live tonight in the northern Cincinnati Area if anyone can make it. He will not disappoint you !!!

  • Yes I have heard Tommy play Over The Rainbow. I think it is in my Favorites. Eddie Pennington does my favorite rendition of that song. I am not a good judge of whose best on certain techniques. Scotty will always win any comparison with me. I don't even try to compare different players. Too much stress. I listen to music for pleasure. Scotty moves me deeply with some of the slow, smooth style playing he does. You just don't get to see it on You Tube.

  • "He puts on a great show, but I still think Scotty is the superior musician."

I'd say, don't let TE's showmanship distract you, and don't have SA's remarkable technique do the same thing. Have you heard Tommy's "somewhere over the rainbow"? It's so musical. Then he can switch up into a boogie, a Beatles medley.

Anderson has inhuman technique, I've never seen anything like it. But, I find myself having a 'wow' response more than being moved musically. Depends on how you define musicality I guess?

  • cprattguitar; wrong. I don't cause trouble its just that I have studied more of the great players material than 90-95% of youtube fans; ask the youtube people if I know my stuff. I didn't say Gatton was the greatest; Lenny Breau and Scotty Anderson are better but Gatton is the most spectacular, and impressive player. Email me your address and I'll send you a 35 minute cd that will change your opinion forever. I have audio and video to back up my knowledge; ask Nileswest69.
