Chicago punk band, Vortis, playing at Sylvie's November 23, 2007 on drums Chicago Sun-Times rock critic Jim DeRogatis. Other bands playing that evening included Dolt 45 and The Hmaburglars.
@crazyblinddude Yes, he is heavy, so what? Do you know him personally - really a piece of shit? And maybe he's not that great of a drummer. But the man has more knowledge of music in his left nut than you do in your whole nerdy little body. We're all better at some things than others: Jim is a better writer and radio show host than he is a drummer. I'm sure you're probably better at masturbating in your mother's dirty underwear than you are at making friends.
@illuminol Apparently, the world has come to a point where either: A) we can now bastardize the English language and end sentences with prepositions. Or: B) You don't like what someone says, so you start making fun of their weight.
this is about as DIY as punk music gets anymore. unfortunately, bands influenced by the replacements and minutemen have gone by the wayside. while jim d. may not be the best drummer, at least he's putting himself out there. and how dare you douche bags watch this video and bash on the guy for his criticism of your favorite frat-jam band, or some hillbilly high school dropout who admittedly couldn't cut it as a punk. you're all just a bunch of haters.
WOW. I can't decide which is worse - the fact that a music critic plays drums in that horrible band, or the fact that the drummer from that horrible band is employed as a music critic.
Now, I get to insult the critic. I actually think the drumming is pretty good, but of course not great. Needs practice. The band is good but I believe they need to write songs with a hook and develop the lyrics around that. The guitar playing not bad. I would like to see a the audience singing along and that's were good song writing comes into play. Do I like this band, I really don't know, I guess I would need to hear more.

Jim hates on Carter Beauford and then plays the drums using the same style that 95% of all other drummers can do better than he can...
Hmmmm, Carter or Jim?? Which drummer is better??? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out... :S

Go Jim!
Kind of Dave Grohl like.
