Icelanders spend 5 times more than London on their New Year's Eve fireworks show. Video of New Year's Eve 2010/11 in Iceland.
Keifer Sutherland had to say after visiting Iceland for New Year's Eve 2004, "I saw probably the most extraordinary firework display in my life. There's no laws in Iceland with regard to fireworks, which makes New Year's Eve very interesting. It's a small population but they spend over $15 million for fireworks for that night. It's like a war zone. There's no organization to it ... I filmed it because I didn't think anyone back home would believe it."
Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran (Church of Iceland) parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland. At 74.5 metres (244 ft), it is the largest church in Iceland and the sixth tallest architectural structure in Iceland. The church is named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614 to 1674), author of the Passion Hymns. State Architect Guðjón Samúelsson's design of the church was commissioned in 1937. He is said to have designed it to resemble the basalt lava flows of Iceland's landscape. It took 38 years to build the church, with construction work beginning in 1945 and ending in 1986.
Yes! Really cool!..I was there too!! :P ....Iceland has some long dark winter with almost no day light so the million of fireworks on the New Year's Eve make for it big time :O)
