Special and very first system test of Houston County's 33 new Whelen WPS-2900s. This siren is a model WPS-2909 (9 cell, 3600W), located on US Hwy 41 & Todd Rd on the outskirts of Perry. The sirens were tested in voice first (to announce the test), followed by a 30-second alert tone, and finally another voice announcing the end of the test. I missed the first couple of words of the voice, because the siren was set off 5 minutes early. The complete English voice announcement reads "Attention! The following is a regular monthly test of the Houston County outdoor warning system. This is NOT an emergency! This is only a test."

  • Bad Tone Genorator :( 1:29

  • @scienceboy639 What? How do you figure? That's how they're supposed to sound...

  • @murrfarms It Like... When It Winds Down ID Does IT Normally, And Then Suddeny Drops Then Back to Normal

  • @scienceboy639 Oh, you mean that kind of fluttering or "stepped" sound while it's winding down? I don't know why they do that, but every single Whelen I've ever heard with the newer tone generator has that same weird-sounding wind down. I think even the tone gen before this one (the low-pitched 440Hz alert tone) also did it, but that controller was also riddled with bugs in the software.

  • There are whelens like that but only 6 cells up here in Michigan for the Cook Nuclear Power Plant. They replaced all good sirens just 4 years ago. They replaced ACA P-10's/P-15's, ACA banshees etc...

  • @mohkfry Ah, I was wondering what Cook ended up going with when they replaced their old ACA system. I know Palisades went with Federal 2001s, but wasn't sure with Cook. Did they also have ACA Hurricanes back in the day, or was that only Palisades?

  • Whats with all the "Whelens suck" talk? There awesome and a heck of a lot better than those ATI junk.

  • @murrfarms I just found out that Cook did have a few ACA Hurricanes in the bunch. I believe i read this on the siren board.

  • I went up there Friday and most Whelens are 5 cells. Some can be found with 6 cells though.

  • @murrfarms I believe it was Palisades. Cook only had P10's, P15's and a lot of Banshees.
