You are a very cool girl! Obviously you have a degree of empathy and compassion for the people who come over here to better their lives and their family lives. Thank you for being so open to the diversity these people bring to our country, and recognizing the work they do here.

As for Siatistian, I live in Souther California. My city was overwhelming majority latino. Obviously, you have not tried and walk a mile in the shoes of those who come here illegally. Each one has a story to tell.

Therefore, politicians and policymakers aren't likely to address this in a serious way because doing so would be a blow to the economy and the American economy depends on the cheap labor that illegal immigrants afford them.

However, it would be nice to see a change in American immigration policy. It would require strong leadership to pursue a virtuous policy that may become unpopular and result in economic depression.

That's incorrect. At some point your ancestors immigrated and contributed to the dispossession of land from the indigenous populace. Now you know how it feels. The same is true of the Brits who are whining about the asylum-seekers. What goes around eventually will come back around.

I agree with your points in a normative sense but I think top the presendent and policymakers will continue to be reluctant to address this. Why? Because this bulk of illegal immigrants form a significant part of the American economy. It's like having Third World labor disseminated throughout the country. Even though some of it may be sent back, the value that is created by exploiting immigrants is significant.
