Gaspard de la Nuit, Scarbo by Maurice Ravel, Pål Eide - piano, from the concert programme "Piano Pictures" (Check out his new cd with Bach and Rachmaninov on Amazon.com)
Scarbo is a little dwarf, or devil (if you like), who you´d not want to meet, and who shows up when you least expect it...

When Ravel´s Gaspard de la Nuit was published in 1908,it was called "the most difficult piece in the world", and it can still today shock the concert audience...

  • amazing

  • This is by far one of my favorite pieces of classical music. The fact that you actually played it is an accomplishment on its own. I am no expert but I felt that you were stiff and off at the beginning of the piece. One could say it was your interpretation of the piece. However I have never heard of the beginning performed this way before. Once you warm up, you hold your own and you sound better and better past the midpoint. Thanks for sharing.

  • That is really good. I wish I could play like you. How long have you been playing?

  • Yes, this is a challenging piece, but it still is far from the hardest. I still think Alkan's Le Preux beats this by a long shot, according to the digital recording by Nanasakov. Only 2 recordings of it are on youtube, one slow, and one that is good but not nearly as fast or perfect as the digital recording. Opus Claviceumbalisticum is also one of the hardest pieces, and Circus Gallop by Hamelin.

  • I think Alkan's Concerto for Solo piano was composed before this and Islamey, and is more difficult.

  • EveryOne ! You have to watch Pathetique ! By beethoven. This is my personal fav

  • @thespleenenator Your so right this one should be so popular
