Plan of Milledgeville, 1808
Daniel Sturges
This hand-drawn plan of Milledgeville, Georgia ranks high among the cartographic artistic treasures in the state of Georgia. It includes unique information about the extent of wetlands, distribution of land owners, and land use functions of Georgia's premier planned city of the early National period. When discovered at the Georgia Archives during move preparations in 2002, the map was in extremely fragile condition. There were significant tears and areas of lost information.
In March 2008, with generous support of the Friends of the Georgia Archives, conservation treatment of this treasure was begun by Elizabeth K. Schulte. The backing cloth was removed and the map was humidified and flattened in preparation of mending. Once most of the pieces had been reattached and large tears were repaired, stains were reduced on a suction table. The map was lined with Okawara Japanese tissue. Losses were filled in with toned tissues.
This looks very interesting. Do you have a version with sound?
