James A. Cross, age 78, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday, January 25, 2009, at the Stein Hospice Service in Sandusky, Ohio.

James was born October 20, 1930 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, to Floyd & Clarissa (Panck) Cross and was raised in the Britton, Michigan area.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim was an enlisted veteran who after his time of service spent most of his working life dedicated to serving in the propane industry in many different capacities. He spent many of his propane years as a Division Manager for Northern Propane Gas (Norgas). While located in Durand, MI, Jim was an active member of the Durand Masonic Temple and also a 32nd degree Shrine member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Fire Brigade unit. Jim was a long time member of the Durand First Congregational Church and also a member of the Father's Heart Family Church in Sandusky, OH.

Survivors include: daughters, Janet (Francisco) Guevara of Sandusky, Ohio and Vickie (Jim) Murphy of Byron, MI, sons, James (Ellen) Cross Jr. of Byron, MI and Greg (Kim) Cross of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Leah, daughter Sandy, grandson Jessie Murphy, sisters, Christine Sparks, Mary Bogedain, and brother, Robert Cross.

The funeral service was held at J. GIlbert Purse Funeral Home, 210 W. Pottawatamie, Tecumseh, MI on Wednesday, January 28, at 2:00 p.m.
Pastor Tony Robinson officiated.

Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh, MI Military honors wer conducted by the Michigan Army National Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and Stein Hospice Service.
