Replace the battery in your Honda Pilot Key. Note, this is not about how to program your key.

It takes 5 minutes to explain how to do it and 2 minutes to actually do it. You don't need to program anything. It took my 2005 Honda Pilot keys about 5 years to finally die. I'd suspect these instructions work equally well for other Honda keys, but I've only done the Pilot key.

You need:
-A CR1616 battery (about $4 USD at most drug stores)
-a size #0 phillips head screwdriver (I bought one at the hardware store for $10 USD. NOTE--don't get a plastic one. Be sure that the area where the head seats in the screwdriver is sturdy and metal if available).

And that's it. It takes a modicum of dexterity with the fingers, but otherwise nothing special. Go for it.

  • People keep stripping out the screw because of the Blue Lock Tight on this small screw...don`t drill it out or try alot of pressure...simply HEAT the metal key with a small torch for a few seconds...the heat transfer to the Lock Tight and softens it or melts it allowing the small philips screw to come out without stripping...

  • @cadl98 Sounds brilliant, someone thumb this comment of @Cadl98 up.

  • Good instructions but F**k Honda for putting loctite on the damn thing! There's a shortcut to this called a drillbit. Pick one the same size as the screw head, and use light pressure until you feel a slight click. The head is gone and you can probably replace the screw once you extract the last few threads...

  • @rmavis869 Yeah, plenty of people have trouble with the screw. Mine came out okay, but as you tell in the vid, it took some pressure and luck. I also think the key works well with no screw as it seems to clasp shut well without it.

  • @DJBLiZ Great to know. Thanks for sharing that. Seems like a lot of people strip the screw.

  • @MrRofeliak you can get the screw from honda for like $3 or $4.. i called and asked my local honda dealer...

  • For know I will not replace thescrew since the key ensemble locks tight enough.

  • @nataplace Great to hear. Thank you for your comment. Every time someone has success, it emboldens other viewers of this vid. As for replacement screw, how about maybe an eyeglass screw/ kit? Just a thought. I searched "tiny screw" and regret it. :-)
