Excerpts of performance by Melodia Women's Choir of New York City

SWEET INTERLUDE*
November 17 and November 18, 2007

Featuring Vivaldi's Gloria
Originally composed for the women and girls of the Venetian Ospedali (orphanages), Melodia will give a rare performance of the Gloria in the way it was heard in Vivaldi's day -- with women's voices and instrumentalists.

Plus the world premiere of new commissioned work by Becca Schack: In My End is My Beginning, a setting of excerpts from TS Eliot's Four Quartets.
Additional works include:
Bach's Wir Eilen mit Schwachen, from Cantata 78;
Den Tod neimand zwingen kunnt, from Cantata 4;
Eric Whitacre's Five Hebrew Love Songs and She Weeps Over Rahoon;
Mendelssohn's Lift Thine Eyes from Elijah

  • What a nice concert it must have been!

    Wonderful of you to put them together in such a nice excerpts. Thank you.

  • This is quite remarkable.

    Sarah, David, Bill and Kit in Cornwall.

  • Mendelssohn is a semitone Flat but good balance. Choral conductors with batons never really get crisp diction (word endings) but this is an attractive sampler selection.

  • Altoooo oh yeah :)

  • its nice.

  • Beautiful tone...but better diction please!!!
