SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mercer County-- While many teenagers focus their attention on turning 16 and passing the exam for their driver's license, there are some Mercer County teens who soar above that aspiration. These young people already have a glider pilot's license. At Silent Wings Soaring (SWS) some of the teenage workers are pilots and instructors despite not being old enough to drive a car. However, they are old enough a pilot a glider solo. 15-year old Christopher Gregg is one of those employees at the SWS glider company who works with his boss Steve Rhule, a former military pilot and current Continental Airlines captain. Rhule tells TR News he enjoys teaching people to fly a glider. He's also eager to take people up for rides at his weekend business at the Grove City Airport. That's where SWS can make up to 30 flights in a day giving visitors a thrill in a powerless aircraft that soars silently after a tow plane pulls it 5,000 feet up in the air. TR News reporter Shayna Marti introduces you to the people who work the gliders in Springfield Township. Choose from two ways to watch the story: YouTube or here on titanradio.net.
