The Surface-to-Air missile system was during the night
Knelt on the edge of the cliff like a humble monk
It brings down planes to prostrate before its piety
And the sky is held alight by only our sparks
And we are looked at, as though we are trying to replace the Sun
Along with the Dictator, the Government, Religion and their causes

The Sky looks like she is rejoicing
And the city on fire looks like a network of sand-castles
They always do over there, in that part of the World
As though what was once the cradle of civilization
Now rolls and tumbles into oblivion
Like the silver hubcaps of a brave new sports car
That has lent itself to danger

A drab city, a remnant of a place that once commanded obedience
That experienced immigration, not invasion
That sits now, like it has fallen out of favour with God
And its soil becomes an offering delivered to Evil
In the shockwave of a bomb-blast
And now its soil is nothing more than beige dust

  • Love the way religion and militarism are interwoven here with such modern aesthetics, and yet there is an ancient quality to it. Very impressive work.

  • nice...

  • Very neat video. Love the B&W, it fits perfectly.

  • As has been aptly pointed out already you have some powerful imagery here. I loved the resonance of 'delivered to Evil' and the simile 'Like the silver hubcaps of a brave new sports car/ That has lent itself to danger' Thank you for sharing.

  • Awlright, some great video for a change :)

  • Strong images man. Rob x

  • You have crazy talent as a poet. Robby(63) has always told me that about you and like him I am so jealous of your voice and accent and the way you can deliver your words so movingly.

    Michael

  • And the war-machines march onward.

It has been a long time since I have seen you, Elly.

    Easy

  • GREAT POEM. LOVE, grandmafottz.xxxooo

  • Your imagery is impeccable. It would be interesting to hear it side by side with the pictures themselves.
