VETERAN CHARACTER ACTOR HENRY GIBSON GAVE A VERY NUANCED, SUBTLE, HEARTFELT PERFORMANCE AS A DEATH ROW INMATE EVEN WITH SOME CLUNKY DIALOUGE IN THE 1988 FLOP "SWITCHING CHANNELS" THE FILM STARRED KATHLEEN TURNER (WHO I USUALLY LOVE), BURT REYNOLDS, AND CHRISTOPHER REEVE (AMUSING IN A THANKLESS ROLE) AND WAS DIRECTED BY TED KOTCHEF, IT WAS A REMAKE OF THE CLASSIC CARY GRANT/ ROSILAND RUSSELL SCREWBALL COMEDY "HIS GIRL FRIDAY" WHICH WAS A REMAKE ITSELF OF "THE FRONT PAGE" BY BEN HECHT

  • I remember seeing this film by Kotcheff. Funny, it was so long ago.

Thanks for posting this Craig. Lots of memories here.

  • @PlayIt4MeAgainSam Thank You Lia, I thought Gibson was very good in this, and was a underrated Actor!

  • Wow, that was a great performance. Good pick. Can you tell me who the actor playing Ike was? And the movie? Thanks.

  • @spacecowboy5000 it was Henry Gibson in "Switching Channels" not a great film, but he was!

  • @CRAIGSWORLD1427 I seem to remember Henry Gibson from Rowan & Martin's comedy show in the 60s/70s. Or am I having another acid flashback?

  • @spacecowboy5000 yes he was in that, (I have never really seen it) but he was also in "Nashville","The Burbs", "Magnolia", and "The Blues Brothers" among other Films he passed away last year....but you could be having a Acid Flasback anyway..lol

  • At last! The best part of the film. Gibson is Oscar-worthy here.

  • I've been a big fan of Henry's for a while now - he was great in films such as Magnolia, Nashville, LAS, The Last Remake of Beau Geste, The Burbs - and even in little indie shorts like 'Mullit'. And let's not forget his lengthy resume of television work!

Great actor, cute as hell (ok, he had an infectious smile). Completely underrated - he always gave 110 % in all his performances..

Thanks so much for posting this - really enjoyed the clip.

  • hahaha Great idea, Craig!! Thanks for sharing! Really a great performance!

  • I haven't seen this movie, but, based on your video, I can't believe that it could be bad. It seems to be very good!

  • ♥ .

  • @MADWORLD1427 What?!! Michael Jackson was that?! Like I first said, it's all about Politics!

I think that you should submit your video to The Academy Awards that you made for 2010, and see what happens!

  • I do not know the film. But from what I could see, Gibson gives a great performance! Very intense!

  • @MADWORLD1427 Really? I missed much of the Academy Awards last year. I'm not always impressed with their picks for films, etc. It all seems more political than talent-based. Their "In Memoriam" is usually reliable, and inclusive. A "Films of ..." would be a great idea. I think 'The Nutty Professor' was his first. He only got better!

  • @CRAIGSWORLD1427 I think that he was too... I always enjoyed seeing him on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In", and he was pretty good in Jerry Lewis' version of 'The Nutty Professor'.
