i have always questioned, when i was young, as to why i liked this song by ELVIS so much - i came to the conclusion that it was because it was unreleased SUN gold. Now all of these years later i know why -- this song deserves far more aclaim than it has ever been given - it is a beautiful song from a fresh new singer who didnt expect such fame as he rightly achieved.
Here it is at its full glory with those wonderful early pictures.
thank you.

This is such an absolutely beautiful, historic and classic song. Elvis' rendition should definitely be way better known than it actually is. Elvis' version of this song was never officially released until the 1970's. It's amazing that Elvis' version of this song took that long to finally be officially released. I also have the "Today, Tomorrow & Forever" four CD box set from 2002 which is where Take #3 of "Harbor Lights" is from. I loved this entire video immensely, 10 Stars as always Jackie.

one of the Pioneer's very earliest recordings

@threepasco Quite agree - imagine how humbled E would be to see how many people around the world continue to listen to his music - and what a difference it has made in their lives.

Elvis Presley singing "Harbor Lights" is indeed special to hear. Have always held it high in my listening favorites. Little for me to write that has not been mentioned in comments of other visitors. Young Elvis had voice qualities unlike "known" singers. His manner and style was raw, unpolished, with anointed voice and God-given unique beauty, prior to "work done" to make him into something he was not meant to be. Size up Elvis back then ..... wonderful "warbler," like no other.

this tune was originally written by my g.grandfather ..unfortunately.. he never completed.

I agree wholeheartedly with threepasco and ElvisSacramento, This song shows the passion, purity and magic in the voice of the young Elvis, but words can't really describe it because he just sang it from the heart.

AWESOME.

Written by Jimmy Kennedy and Hugh Williams (Will Grosz). Elvis recorded it on July 5, 1954 at his first commercial recording session at Sun Records. The recording was never released until 1976 when RCA released the master (take #2) on the LP Elvis-A Legendary Performer, Vol. 2. Take 2 is available on The Complete Sun Sessions and The King of Rock n Roll: The Complete 50s Masters. This is take 3 and is available on Today, Tomorrow, and Forever.
