From the album "Tourist." Performed on my Eastman AR-904CE archtop guitar, through an Acoustic Image Clarus amp into a Redstone RS-8vER cabinet.

  • Beautiful. How do you like that guitar, compared to your other jazz guitars, like your ES-175 (I thought I saw a video with you playing a 175).

  • @jpbouffard - Thank you - well, it's a solid wood archtop and an oval hole to boot. It has a lovely full sound, but is far woodier and brighter than the laminated electric ES-175. The 175 gets that dark, smoky, electric tone while the Eastman is really an acoustic guitar with a pickup on it. As "Eastmen" go it's a winner, as I hand-picked it out of a room full of them (Guitars 'N Jazz in NJ).

  • Your awesome man, do you have any good tips on how to start playing those outside notes? I love that sound and its hard for me to get it.

  • Thanks for the compliment! It's hard to give tips, because at the end of the day you need to HEAR the sounds to play them. But what I CAN suggest is to practice improvising a lot to tunes like this one, which is essentially a vamp that does not move harmonically. It forces you to be creative and step outside your comfort zone. This tune is in Eb Dorian (same pitches as Db Major). Try playing chromatic stuff to connect the scale tones. Things will probably pop out at you.

  • @rpguitar thanks man, i transcribed alot of your licks to help my vocab. you rock

  • @VegetaFedor - Oooh... that's pretty cool. I'd love to see it if you feel like sharing. You can send me a PM. Very glad you got something out of my noodling!! -RP

  • @rpguitar ha ha, no way. That's where I got my Eastman as well, too funny. Lou is the man, the guitar man that is. I've never been treated with that much respect by any guitar dealer. The guys over at Rudy's could learn something about the art of selling a refined instrument from Lou. I remember the first time I bought my Eastman, my pop's car broke down in Jersey. Great memory, worth it my wonderful guitar!

  • Amazing playing and tone!

  • Thanks a lot John, make sure to check out the 2 vids I put up with Gary Power - I'm playing this guitar acoustically. It's a fantastic axe. -Roger

  • Beautiful Robert. I just ordered a guitar just like that one. I found your video because I was looking for a video made by one so I could hear what it sounds like. I love your playing too, nice bonus for me :)

    John
