Here are two VS tank RC models of tanks from WWII - the Soviet Red Army KV-1 and the German Tiger 1.

While the VS tank Tiger 1 model has been around for some time, the KV-1 appears to be a relatively newer release. My KV-1 is the 2010 model and at last VS Tank has begun to put a volume control on some of their model tanks. The KV-1 comes with a mute, low volume, high volume switch.

If you have watched my other VS Tank videos you will know that I am usually very enthusiastic about the VSP Infra Red series of tanks. Generally VS Tank is renowned for their quality and attention to small details. However on this occasion I have to say they have 'dropped the ball' entirely. I am not impressed with the KV-1 and I am hoping that this is not a sign of things to come in the future. (There appear to be some big changes happening at VS tank at the moment).

In my opinion the same attention to detail and quality just isn't there on the KV-1. In my view it almost appears as if it was made by another company altogether.

Unlike all my other VS Tanks, the KV-1 has a very cheap plastic appearance.

The tracks in particular look very low-cost and nasty; they are jet black color and look more like one would expect to see fitted to a cheap toy tank rather than a VSP model.

Take a close look at my video and compare the KV-1 to the Tiger 1 sitting beside it. They cost the same price, but are certainly not the same quality.

Also compare the photos of the KV-1 on the VS tank / ToyEast sites to my KV-1 in the video. Spot the difference? The KV-1 tanks on the VS tank / ToyEast sites have plastic 'metal look' tracks. In fact they are even highlighted in close up photos. Also the 'weathered look' of the KV-1 on the VS tank / ToyEast sites is very distinct, whereas on my KV-1 model it is hardly detectable on the upper hull and can only really be noticed on the turret.

NOTE: the fact the VS Tank site displays the tank fitted with the realistic 'metal look' plastic tracks similar to that which comes standard on the Tiger 1 was one of the reasons I ordered this tank. I have now had to spend an additional US$28 for the metal look hard tracks to be sent to me.

OTHER THINGS WHICH DISAPPOINT:

While the KV-1 can climb 40 degrees...it is a slow tank. I am using good quality, new and freshly charged 2500 mAh batteries which provide the best performance. I would hate to see this tank run on cheap alkaline batteries.

In full fast forward (it has three forward speeds) it is slower than many of my other tanks on their slowest forward speed.

Further, in forward motion my KV-1 tank keeps on wanting to pull to the left I am hoping that being new tracks one could be slightly tighter than the other and that within a short time it will correct itself. The tighter track should eventually stretch. However one must ask "If it is the tracks, then why does it run straight and true in reverse?" In any case, I will have the new tracks soon.

Another thing which is less than impressive is the 'hit effect' when hit by another tanks infra red beam. Unlike my other seven VS tanks, the KV-1 merely has a fairly subdued glow of light which shines through the plastic side plate of the turret when 'hit'. Compare it to the bright flash of light you see coming from the Tiger 1 in my video and you will understand what I am talking about.

Overall, for the first time I am less than impressed with a VS tank VSP Infra Red series model.

Definitely give the KV-1 a miss if you are looking for your first VsTank WWII model and choose the VSP Tiger 1. They are like comparing chalk and cheese

  • @Jaso4444 It is slow - but then so were the real KV-1's. On the plus side this model climbs really well because the weight is down low. Also it is good for Infra Red battles -the shorter gun on this tank does not get in the way when in narrow spaces. If you are after a fast tank in the VSP 1:24 series you need to look more towards the modern day tanks. The Leopards, Abrams and Japanese Type 90 go like rockets!

  • @Helirazor1 Could you show a video of the KV-1 running full speed? Thank you very much, I heard the KV-1 is really slow.

  • @Jaso4444 I only have an Infra Red Version of the KV-1 which I am a little disappointed with. However one of my Tiger 1's is an Airsoft and I am happy to recommend a Tiger 1 Airsoft. Also the Leopard 2's are good in Airsoft.

  • @Helirazor1 Would You recommend the KV1 airsoft?

  • @hellcatdave1 I am sorry but I cannot help you with an answer - I only collect the 1:24 series

  • @Helirazor1 Is the VStank 1:72 series good?

    Thank you.

  • @cheesedude24 You didn't mention whether your tank is Airsoft or Infra Red. I am assuming your tank is the Airsoft model, with an 07 PCB MCU in it, as opposed to the very latest build VS Tank Tiger (which would have the 10 MCU & the new VTX-10 transmitter). In which case that switch is an additional safety measure so you can turn the airsoft gun off to prevent it being accidentally discharged.

On the discontinued Sparkling Series a similar switch served to turn the gun flash on & off

  • @helirazor1 I have a tiger 1 mid production (the white one) and saw a switch covered by plastic under the hatch on the right side of the turret. Is that the volume control?

  • ok thanks alot for the information :D

  • @LeoVideoReview My VsTank in this video (No. 211) is a dark gray (dunkelgrau) early production model. This can be identified by the track mounted on the front of the tank, high cupola, no gun mount ring on turret, two lights at the front of the tank (later models had one center mounted light), rubber on the road wheels, shovel on front of tank, no zimmerit coating etc.
