Tool live @ Pinkpop 2006 playing Vicarious. You can easily recognize that surprisingly Justin is the one who is playing the solo with some extra effects and at about 3:30 Adam`s drop-D-string broke and he quickly pulls it out of the fretboard and changes to his other Les Paul Custom Silverburst (i have seen, that he had only 2 on stage) and sets in exactly as the second quiet part begins ... enjoy !!!

Has anyone seen Justin break a string during a show? Does he have a couple Wal basses handy?

or just listen to the song its pretty obvious because guitar keeps playig the single notes on low D and tool usually doesnt overdub guitarrs.

Bass strings break as readily and as easily as guitar strings. Generally they are a finer metal string coiled with more metal string on top, if the string underneath the coil breaks its pretty useless. (Depending on the gauge) This happens when they are over stressed by slamming it with a hard pick. Justin generally uses medium gauged strings which his tech changes during the few hours before a show. In the case where they're not, they are adequately checked, and there is a replacement bass.

I assume Adam is bored with live shows nowadays. If you look back in the mid-late 90's he would really get into playing, but now he just stands there. An occassional head nod, but that's about it.
