Vêspres de la Vierge Op.18 (excerpt): VI Ave Maris Stella I, IX Ave Maris Stella IV, VII Ave Maris Stella II, XII Magnificat VI (Gloria).
This recording is made live at his concert in Milan Cathedral on the evening of 23 October 2008 (hence the dark lighting conditions).
In this piece Raul explores the Duomo's magnificent 5-manual instrument - which is one of the great pipe organs of the world.

  • What a talent! What a level of musicality is displayed in this performance. It's not just the technical competence, but also the captivating interpretation (choice of the stops, etc.) that makes it very joyful to watch and listen.............

  • I have a recording of the Milan Cathedral Organ from, I think, Priory's "Great European Organs" series. What really surprised me was that the pedal had a 24' stop! This is the only one I have ever run across. The organ is fantastic, though, ruly magnificent. It has to be to fill that enourmous space. From the cathedal's own web site, its square fotage puts it as the world's 2nd or 3rd largest church. It and Seville's cathedral are locked in battle, each claiming to be the 2nd largest church.

  • Excellent quality Sound...

  • @noteworthy99 The reverb is not SO terrific from the 5-manual console: in fact, it's placed about in the middle of the 4 "bodies" of the instrument, the best position to play (and listen) because the delay is kept to a minimum, but still very noticeable, given the dimensions of the cathedral and organ action's own delay. Not so from the small console (3 manuals) which is located in the transept. Echo extinction time of a Tutti chord, with empty cathedral, was stopwatched at 22 seconds.

  • @jcapistr Thank you for the kind comment about the audio quality... the recording was mine, actually... ;-)

  • It's nice to hear some of the less popular works for organ for a change. Excellent interpretation!

  • Thanks for posting. Great sound and a very interesting clip. Must be very difficult for the organist to adjust to the reverb. Hearing this live, with pipes on both sides of the cathedral, must be a heart stopping experience. The acoustics are fantastic and listening Raul Prieto was very enjoyable.

  • This organ is fantastic, I wish there was more of it here on Youtube!

  • Thank you very much for posting this work. The audio quality is terrific. And with the great video I felt like I was there in person. Thank you and the YouTube phenomenon! Joe in Minnesota USA

  • Just ravishing Raul! Always look forward to your postings. Thanks.
