  • The print work you did..how did you get the pictures? did you have to get a copy of the magazine and take the picture out, or did the photographer give you a fresh printed copy?

  • Hi,

I use tear sheets. This means when the magazine comes out I use the pictures that i did the make up on . Providing the quality and layout is good this is by far the best thing to do as printed, magazine work has a prestige association. Hope that helps!

  • how do you get exelant quality photos

  • Set your camera to a high quality picture setting. This will give the sharpest reproduction.

make sure the light you take your picturesin is sufficent too. Assuming you are taking thr pictures! Proffessional printers can develop picyures large enough for a portfolio or try getting good quality laser copies. Good luck!

  • Hi Lee,

This is really helpful, thanks so much for putting it up. I'm just starting out in Australia and my main questions is, what is the best size to go for with a portfolio book?

    Thanks again :)

  • Hi! :D I'm an aspiring makeup artist, I just absolutely love working with makeup. I mostly practice doing eyes, I love basic eyes but am experimenting with a more creative style, bright colours and what not. Animals really inspire my looks that i have created so far. This has really helped me with how to create a portfolio, so thank you so much! :D :D

  • Thanks for sharing. Some really great tips for aspiring MUAs x

  • What size are the prints in this book? what size is the actual book?

  • this is very useful thx soo much for sharing!!

  • @Emmaxx1995

Over Time Your work will progress. Pro makeup artist Normally have 11x14 books, but to start you can get a 9x12 so prints wont cost you more. You can start building a before and after book 8x10 and as you become more experienced in a specific look your comfortable in, contact a professional photographer to do a shoot then tranfer that print onto your pro 9x12 or 11x14 book. Professional images should be lightly retouched. Goodluck :)
