She was the only one they could find in the country who didn't have something embarrassing to hide. Their first and second choices wouldn't have had time to go out on the stump as they will be spending quite a bit of time with the Standards Committee over the next few weeks.

Best of the lot? She was the fourth or fifth Party choice -- almost forced to take on the job by Brown - so clearly even Labour thought she was NOT the best candidate.
If Brown was born here you would think he would have done more for his home town which, after all those years in power, has areas of the East End with the worst social deprivation in the UK!
