@Galaxar94 The general public didn't buy into the myth until after the ship sank because it made a good story. In other words after the sinking people began to romanticize the image of Titanic by saying that it was indestructable even though everyone knew it wasnt. Another example is that they say that God couldn't sink her, no one said that until after the sinking because after the sinking Christian groups used Titanic as an example of God's wrath. The White Star Line never said she won't sink.
@TheTrianonmusic ancient tribes/greek mythology i knew what i meant ;) and the whole speach about the names, i knew all that thanks ... and how could the myths of titanic being unsinkable come after she sank?? why would they hear news that the titanic sank, THEN advertise that their ship was unsinkable?? doesn't make sense ¬¬
@tardisbill yeah, the fourth was actually used as an airvent and as storage space for deck chairs. bruce ismay thought that with only 3 funnels it didnt look powerful enough (most ships, smaller than titanic, had 4 but titanic's massive engines only required 3) so he, being the perfectionist he was, ordered a fourth to be attached.
@Galaxar94 ancient tribes? no the olympic class liners were named for greek mythology: olympic for mt. olympus where the gods lived, and titanic for the titans, the creators of the universe AND the gods. britannic was supposed to be named gigantic but a name change was issued in fear of a similar fate to titanic. i do see ur point becuz the titans did challenge the gods and were defeated, but the myths of titanic being unsinkable and that God couldnt sink her came AFTER titanic sank.
i've read alot on Titanic, and one thing i came across was this, which is quite spooky in my opinion: the olympic class liners were named after acient tribes, Titanic after the titans. Legend has it that the titans dared to challenge the gods, and they were punished for it. So in 1912 when they said god himself cannot sink the Titanic, its a really weird coincidence which directly links to that legend =S
RIP TITANIC I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART
