ps I'm a black girl by the way and a pretty good swimmer. My dad taught my sister and I and in our backyard pool. He's been swimming since childhood and he grew up in freakin village in Ghana, West Africa! Hahaha well thats something to think about.
@baz00katooth I don't think its mostly that they are slower at learning to swim, its like anything else it takes practice. If you dont have anywhere to practice or support outside of class its a little bit harder to pick things up. Factually blacks are probably less likely to have access to pools/someone to teachthem. I wouldnt be surprised if many of the white swimmers had some experience with swimming and pools much earlier than the black swimmers.
Phelps is an overrated athlete. The fastest style of swimming is the front crawl. While Phelps is a capable front crawl swimmer, he is not the best. The other strokes are interesting, but shouldn't we care most about the fastest stroke. In sprinting, we don't care to see who can run the fastest backwards or while crab walking, we only want to see the fastest. In swimming, the most compelling competition is the freestyle competition, one which Phelps didn't even compete in in '08.
Ok, lets see you get 14 gold medals and 8 in one Olympic game then go call Phelps an "overrated" athlete. Why wouldn't we care about other strokes. They all require more technique and overall skill than the front crawl. It would be like if instead of having a wide variety of running events, they would only have the 50m sprint, and just take out the hurdles, 100m, 400m etc.. Sir, your argument is irrelevant, go cry to your mum because you will NEVER be as good of an athlete as Phelps.

Erin Andrews is kinda overrated and it's not because of my username. I like NFL Network's Alex Flanagan, Michelle Beisner, and Thompson more.
