im confused!!!!!!! why didnt he divide t^2 by the t under it???? this video is like 30 years old. maybe division wasnt invented back then

I'm completely lost on the concept of why you turn -6y into 1/6 the fraction.
My textbook doesn't explain it to the fullest terms :(
