This is the original recording of Hank Lariviere's (later Hank Rivers) "Maple Sugar Sweetheart" which added lyrics to Ward Allen's 1956 hit fiddle instrumental, "Maple Sugar". LaRiviere's version was later recorded and popularized by both Jack Kingston and Mac Wiseman, among others. The present version was first released on the LP "Hank LaRiviere and The Country Kings", Banff RBS. 1056, c.1959. To the best of my knowledge Ward Allen himself plays fiddle on this recording.

Wow this is wonderful -- I don't know why I did not know about the words to this great fiddle tune. As great as Maple Sugar is (and it is about as good as any fiddle tune ever IMO) -- these words and this singing is up to the task. This is the kind of class that we need more of in country music today. Thanks for the post.
