My Dad, part 2: Baseball stories (Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, Casey Stengel, Yankees...)

I can expand a little on the story of when he hit Dan Topping's car, from my own memory of Dad's earlier tellings of that story:

After hitting the school many times, the coach offered up a free steak dinner to the first person who managed to hit a ball completely over the school. All the while as my dad rounded the bases after he hit it, he said to the coach, "Is that a steak dinner? That's a steak dinner!"

When the coach came into the locker room with Topping and called up my dad, he thought the coach was going to try to weasel out of the steak dinner. He had no idea who Topping was.

Baseball is the greatest sport. It represents what this country is about. Its not the same anymore. I love hearing old stories like this. My grandparents would good friends with Ralph Kiner here in Pittsburgh. I had the opportunity to meet Buck O neil before he died. I could listen to your dad all day. Great man
